The Museum of Modern Renaissance is a permanent, three-level artist-created environment located in a historic 1909–1910 communal building near Davis Square and Tufts University.
Since acquiring the building in 2002, collaborative artists Nicholas Shaplyko and Ekaterina Sorokina have transformed its architecture, walls, ceilings, beams, passages, gathering spaces, and exterior façade through monumental painting, sculpture, designed furnishings, music, performance, and cultural programming.
The Main Hall contains 57 murals and forms the principal monumental cycle of the Museum. Across all three levels, architecture and artistic creation operate as one continuous work. Unlike a conventional museum in which artworks are placed inside a neutral building, at the Museum of Modern Renaissance the building itself has become the work of art.
