Consumption is political, not just in regard to what we consume, but how we consume and display our consumption. As income inequality and economic insecurity rises in the U.S., we have seen an increase in weathly commodity displays and aesthetics. Things once considered common or classless, such as groceries, plastic to-go bags, and pubic hair, and increasingly commodifies by companies and advertisers. Recession Indicators plays with the gaps carved out by gaudy new media without serving it on a silver platter and explores consumption as cultural, political, and social capital.
