Emergence

Gallery 263

263 Pearl Street, Cambridge, MA

  • As our world continues to expand and contract, some of our artists are looking at how the identities they hold relate to the natural world around them. From the growth and joy of a new spring to the swiftness of rushing water, these artists are challenging the strict divide between human and non-human relationships. Other artists are looking inward, exploring aspects of identity and collectivity through a variety of media. Textural approaches and color exploration provide a deep, rich area to delve into belonging across cultures.

This exhibition features six artists who have art studios at The Foundry, a community arts center in Cambridge where equity, belonging, and access come together. In a city where workspace is expensive and hard to come by, this space provides an option for local artists to further their artistic practice and build community. When access is such a big question mark for emerging artists, relationships between two non-profits allows Cambridge to become a more supportive city for artistic exploration.
