Mari Saxon Alcove Exhibition

Co|So presents its newest alcove exhibition by Mari Saxon. The photographs highlighted in this show come from her recent project, "The Book of Tales":  A long-term project Untold Fairytale which is a performative photography series reflecting on motherhood, self-identification, and femininity through playful self-portraits.

Each photograph in the project can tell its own fairytale, even more than one. But together, in sequence, these images also begin to tell a fairytale of their own. Her small, handmade fairy-tale world beneath the attic roof is encircled by a dark, fearful forest: a metaphor for the foreign world we found ourselves in and a true character from old Russian folktales. Its tangled depths belong to the outer world and a place where daughters must not wander without their mother.
