Making Light Last: The Art of Michael J. Moore

Michael J. Moore's New England landscapes, seascapes, and still lifes reflect the tradition of classical realism. He continues to paint, teach, and exhibit his work at MBACC and on Nantucket. This exhibition brings together paintings spanning his remarkable career.

Michael Moore grew up in Stoughton, Massachusetts, served in the Vietnam War, and spent years fishing out of New Bedford, working aboard offshore lobster boats and scallop vessels. While living on a farm in Stowe, Vermont, between fishing trips in his thirties, Michael watched Frank Mason teach a summer class. That experience inspired him to move to New York, enroll at the Art Students League, and study under Mason. From there, his journey took him to Nantucket, where he painted full-time and started a family; then to Strafford, Vermont; and eventually to Dedham, Massachusetts, where he is based today.
