Featured Artists

  • Jeffrey Nowlin

Jeffrey Nowlin: Good Fat, the artist’s debut solo exhibition at Boston Sculptors Gallery, features sculpture and collage representing a range of material processes and a ritual-like approach to artistic creation. Good Fat references the complicated satisfaction that derives from manual fabrication.

Nowlin’s work engages repetitive, meditative practices working with fibers, wood, ceramics and weaving. Employing color, texture, and assemblage, Nowlin constructs hanging sculptures and totemic objects. These pieces focus on the power of process, intuition and materiality. His collages offer insight into the layered approach that guides his practice. Composed of found images and mark making, the compositions echo the tactics of the artist’s sculptural practice, offering insight into his creative strategies.

Nowlin has exhibited throughout the Boston area and the Northeast, debuting graduate thesis work at Mass MoCA in North Adams, MA; the Piano Craft Gallery, Boston, MA; Praise Shadows Gallery, Brookline, MA; Kingston Gallery, Boston, MA; Brickbottom, Somerville, MA; and Montserrat Gallery in Beverly, MA. Nowlin was awarded the 2025/2026 artist in residence at the Earl Center for Creativity and Innovation. A member of the climate justice artist group i3C, he has facilitated weaving and collage workshops using up-cycled materials in Boston, Cambridge, Medford and Belmont. He is currently a lecturer of sculpture at Boston University and adjunct faculty at Massachusetts College of Art and Design. Originally from Connecticut, Nowlin lives and works in Cambridge, MA.
