Fabricated Imaginaries presents artworks that inhabit a liminal space where art converges with craft traditions, design, and unconventional modes of making. Drawn primarily from the museum’s permanent collection and reflecting diverse global perspectives, the works collectively challenge entrenched hierarchies of “fine art” while expanding our understanding of materiality and visual expression. Many of the artists navigate more than one cultural lineage or site of belonging, and their practices intertwine heritage and contemporaneity to offer nuanced reflections on hybridity, hyphenated identities, and innovative artistic synthesis.
