  • Eli Portman

The Copley Society of Art is thrilled to present City in Faded Light, a solo show in our Lower Gallery Alcove by artist member, Eli Portman. Fascinated with the urban environment, Portman visualizes the modern city landscape by featuring opulence, grime, and everything in between that mirrors our growing society.

“We build castles around us. They grow with us, and as we falter, they crumble. As our society expands, our buildings grow with extensions and added floors. Shopkeepers power wash sidewalks to hide the stains. Murals hide cracks on walls.” – Eli Portman

In this series of works, Portman examines the structures that characterize the people living in and around them. He believes urban environments and how they are treated reflect a certain healthiness or lack thereof. Through the delicate process of photography and renderings, Portman creates vibrant watercolor paintings. By doing this, he catches scenery that would otherwise go unseen, and gives the city a new light.
