Z’M Projects is pleased to present That Which Binds Us, a one-work exhibition by New York based artist Augustina Wang. The exhibition will be on view from December 5, 2025 - January 31, 2026, with an opening reception on Friday, December 5, from 5:30 - 8pm.
Augustina Wang’s work investigates myth, worldbuilding, and established power structures. Her inspiration stems from the women in her family and her childhood self: a girl who explored roleplaying blogs, fanfiction forums, and video games to find power, agency, and community in a world where it was otherwise scarce. For Wang, roleplay—and by extension, painting—becomes a form of healing, addressing traumas that are generational, or even primordial.
That Which Binds Us captures a moment both pivotal and defiant. At the center, a bride pierces her earthen groom, unleashing a swirling tornado of transformation. She is flanked by two skeletons, poised to reclaim her should she stumble. In a single, decisive gesture, she transcends the constraints of mortality, material pursuit, and societal expectation. All cycles collapse, replaced by boundless, untamed autonomy. In this universe, conviction is potent enough to bend the laws of nature—and perhaps even defy death itself.
