Since 1960, Boston and Strasbourg have been sister cities, connected by shared values of democracy, education, and cultural exchange. Strasbourg, like Boston, is a center of government, economy, culture, education, and medicine. Strasbourg and Boston are known for their majestic churches and beautiful historic landmarks. Both cities place a great emphasis on historic preservation. In this exhibition, photographers from both cities turn their lenses on familiar streets, revealing what makes each location unique while discovering unexpected resonances across the Atlantic.

From Strasbourg, we witness these contrasts unfold: the Ill River reflects both Gothic cathedral spires and contemporary European Parliament glass. Ancient stone architecture finds its counterpoint in contemporary street art. These images capture a city that holds centuries of history on one side, European modernity on the other—both integral to its identity.

From Boston, similar dualities emerge: historic brick buildings rise beside gleaming skyscrapers. The Charles River offers both a postcard view and hidden perspectives visible only to those who know where to look. Marathon Monday transforms streets into celebration, while quiet moments reveal the city at rest. These photographs reveal a city shaped by revolutionary history and sustained by community action.

The photographers in this exhibition share their own cities under a dual lens. Some capture their cities during the golden hour, others through water reflections. Whether documenting daily life, architecture or landscapes, these artists invite us to see their cities through fresh eyes.
